EOC Week Three: Nine to Five

Nine to Five was a movie that was based on secretaries that want to kill their boss. One of ways that producers conducted market research was by asking secretaries how they would kill their boss if they had the chance. Also one of the producers of the movie went to an office to get hand on experience on how an office runs. Another thing that they did was ask office workers what they would want to change in their work environment. One of the ethical issues that we talked about was that women where not being treated in the same manner as men. For an example someone got a job offer that had less seniority and the person that trained that person was not even offered or considered for the job. The reason that the person was not considered for the job was, because she was a woman. It was interesting to see the changes that the employees would make. Little things such as paint color and having personal items on their desk. The little changes made the office so comfortable that production went up 20% in only six weeks. It’s to show that if you give people what they want that they will work hard. Even though women are not on a complete level field with men in the work force still there have been many changes that has drawn this gap closer together. The movie also played on ethics when sending one if its workers to AA. This would be unheard of in any time. Being evolved so much in your employee’s personal lives it very unethical. Having someone in the bathroom and taking notes on what people are discussing is another unethical topic that was covered in the movie. It is interesting to see the changes that have happened over the 25 years.

EOC: Week two survey and results

http://www.marketresearchworld.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2053&Itemid=77

Market research is key in seeing what your consumers want. It helps you find where your brand stands and where there is room for improvement. Have you ever wondered what people considered to be the top luxury brand? The answer to this question was found and it found out to be Gucci. New products may emerge from the findings of the market research, such as designer electronics. This research was descriptive, which most market research is. Like most descriptive research there was a survey conducted. This research was longitudinal since it was collected over time and not all at once. What I found interesting about this research was how each country varied. It was interesting to see what country thought was the most coveted luxury brand. Also I was in shock that Louis Vuitton was not in the top three. The brand had even fallen in surveys from the past. I wonder if Louis Vuitton will come out with anything new to help bring their brand up. The survey also shows that people would be more willing to buy electronics if their favorite luxury brand was on it. So when will the time come when you go to turn on your Gucci television? Brands have already staring going in different directions such as the D&G cell phone that was released some years ago. There will be a time when our luxury brand is just more then handbags and ready-to-wear, and such. They will start to play an even bigger role in our day-to-day lives. I just wonder how they will balance the appeal of being somewhat exclusive while trying to expand their brand and bring it to even more consumers. I expect to see great changes in the years to come with the merge of electronics and luxury brands. It makes since with electronics and luxury brands playing such big roles in our lives. So keep an eye out when there are designer IPods, cell phones, tablets, and flat screen tv’s.

BOC: Quiz

The Booty Pop is a padded panty that gives women a more shapely back side. The influence of bootylicious celebrities including reality TV stars, pop singers and Red Carpet divas have fueled the booty craze. Suddenly big was good and fashion was accommodating. (http://www.bootypop.com/History.html) It has significance because stars started a sensation about have a shapely backside. They saw a gap in the market and help to fill it. If you do not have he round booty of that your favorite stat and want it the Booty Pop helps you fill your need. Have you ever wondered who shopes more online men or women? Also by how much? Well almost three-fourths of women (72%) and more than two-thirds of men (68%) having shopped online in the past 30 days during Q4 2010. (http://www.marketingvox.com/marketing-data-roundup-women-text-shop-online-more-than-men-apple-tops-in-smartphone-satisfication-048914/) I do not think it was a shock about how much shopping women do online. On the other hand I was shocked with the amount the men do go online to shop. Then again they do not have to go to the place they all dread the most the mall.

EOC: Week 1: What I am expecting from this class

I am excepting a lot from class considering that it is a 300 level class. Also I want to be able to use the final project for my portfolio when I graduate. Another thing I expect is to be able to learn even more about marketing and see if it a field that I would like to get into. If I do choose to get in to marketing I feel that this class should help me in getting a job. Also I feel that the skills that I will learn will help me in being a well rounded employee. I want to see what the field is all about and how I can apply it with my degree. Also learning what the different stages of marketing while using them through them with our project. Also after crating our final project I want to know how to analyze the potential success or fail of the project. I would like to know what the different kinds of research are and how they are conducted. In part of this I would also like to know the different ways to obtain the research. I would also like to know which tools are the best and at what price points they are at. Also I would like to know who the big people in marketing are and how they got there. I also need to know how ethics play in to marketing research and if they are like the ones in advertising. I also need to know what makes a good survey and how to make one myself. Once the surveys are answered I need to know how the process the information that I gathered. Once this is done I need to see what I will do with the new answers that I have. All of these things paired together I feel that I will have taken a lot from that class.
